A sad day came over me
When I found you could not get on your feet
If  I'd known the visit to the vet
Was the last that we would see of each other
I would have done things differently

Now I hold your ashes every morn and every eve
I weep so much with tears 
I feel I'll drown, not sleep 

I search my soul for peace
But somehow it may never be
As you should have had so many more years with me

Rest in peace my friend as you now are pain free
Someday I will cross that bridge and also be with thee
Until that day my heart  must stand the test
As  I know now you can't be with me
